Your Evaluation

You have been referred to Drs. Berger and Miller to determine if you are a candidate for dental implant placement. The periodontist is a key member in your restorative dentist’s team who can help to plan and evaluate your treatment options. The periodontist places the implants and the restorative dentist will make the teeth.

The process begins with your periodontist taking the time to thoroughly acquaint himself with your dental history. Knowing your dental history helps him decide if you may be a candidate for dental implants. For instance if you are suffering from the loss of one tooth, several teeth, or all of your teeth, dental implants may be the answer. At this time your needs and expectations can be discussed, as well.

The next step in the evaluation is a review of your medical history. Your medical history will be examined for any contraindications to implant placement, such as uncontrolled diabetes and bleeding problems. Next comes a thorough dental exam and tests to help determine if and where implants can be placed by your periodontist. X-rays and other types of imaging may be necessary to provide information on the health of adjacent teeth and quality of the jawbone. A panoramic x-ray may be indicated to provide a view of the entire mouth and related structures that are relevant to implant placement.

After all of the facts are analyzed, your periodontist will collaborate with your restorative dentist. If dental implants can be utilized to create superior restoration it will be presented to you at your convenience. The overall cost, time frame for the procedures, and treatment alternatives will be outlined. After developing a treatment plan you are on your way to a smile that you will be proud of.
