Step by Step
Step 1: Implant Placement
Using a precise and gentle operating technique, your
periodontist fits a small, screw-like implant (made
of titanium) into your jawbone. Simply put, you
could say that this is your new tooth root.
Step 2: OsseointegrationPeriod
After the dental implants are placed, you should be
prepared to allow three to six months for the
"bonding of the dental implants to the jawbone".
This phenomenon is known as osseointegration. Many
patients use a temporary bridge during this period.
Step 3: Connecting the Abutment
Once an implant is osseointegrated or firmly
anchored to the jawbone, your doctor will attach
extensions or abutments to the implants. These
abutments pass through the gums, and the finished
bridge or crown will attach to it.
Step 4: The Prosthetic Work
Impressions of your mouth will be taken to begin
fabricating your new implant-anchored teeth. This is
followed by follow-up visits during which you and
your dentist decide on the appearance of your new
teeth. When all of the objectives are satisfied, the
new teeth supported by the implants, can be placed. |
